"Last Year was an incredible run where the New York Metropolitans almost won it all, after reaching the World Series, the defending National League champion New York Mets, have not only awaken the dormant fan base but are now relevant again. Last year was unexpected; no one saw them getting that far. It was my first postseason experience to see the Mets in the post season live in the ballpark. The weather was cold, however, my excitement and love of the team kept me warm through the frigid nights in Queens. Going to every game and cheering my heart out was an experience I will never forget.
We have a lot of young talent. Especially rising star pitchers that confidently shows us that the future is bright for years to come. The Buzz around this team has energized the city making the Mets more attractive than dare I say it? The other Crosstown team. The team is now playing winning baseball since 2006 and hopes are high that the team repeats the success of last year. The purpose of this blog is to keep Mets fans informed of how the team is doing and all things Mets. My hopes for the site is that it keeps the fan base informed, engaged and following the team through triumph and tragedy.
The team history is not one that is very successful; however the fan base is bigger and more passionate than many others. The diehard fan like myself is those that are there no matter what, through thick and thin. Many types of fans Exist, my hope is that I can connect with each type. The fans on the top are the Diehards they are up-to-date, always rooting and always positive. The next fans in the next tier are followed by the lukewarm fans that are always on the up and down; they are up to date depending how the team is doing. If the team is winning, they are around, quite the opposite when they are losing. The next tier of fans down are what I call the "closeted" fan base. These are the fans that when the team is doing great, they go to the closet to get their gear, dust it up and show team pride, but then when things go south they put their gear right back to the closet, and they drop their team. These Fans don’t know what’s going on its all based on the buzz the team gets through Media and social interactions. Finally, we have the undercover fans that would never identify themselves as Mets fans. No one would know that they are fans at all, but they root for their team in secret. These fans claim that they are fans only to other Mets fans.Almost as if they are on the verge of switching allegiances. They remain in the dark unless there is a championship then they may move up a tier.
Me personally I have gone through all phases of being a fan, one passes through each level as their love for the team grows. I know what it’s like to be a part of the ride, but also in being lost and uninformed. The NYC Metropolitan Blog will have something for each level of fans. The blog will have game updates, news, editorials, and reaction pieces. In this 40th anniversary year of the 1986 team, the year the Mets won the World Series, there is a lot of excitement in the air. No Matter what type of fan you are things are looking up for it is evident the team is now relevant again! LET’S GO METS!
